Depart Heathrow 1325, arriving Toulouse 1610. Transfer to Hotel Les Jardins du Cèdre, Port Vendres for seven nights.
Introductory lecture followed by excursion to Collioure: harbour, Church of Notre Dame des Anges, Chateau Royal. Continue to Elne (pre-Roman Iberian citadel of Ilíberis).
Whole day excursion into Pyrenees along Valley of the Tech: Arles-sur-Tech (Church of Ste Marie), Col d’Ares (ruined chapel), stone-built town of Besalú in Spain, returning to France via border town of Le Perthus (Fort de Bellegarde).
Whole day excursion to Catalonia: Sant Pere de Rodes (superb Romanesque monastery), Cadaqués (picturesque fishing village), Figueres (Dalí Museum).
Ille-sur-Têt (sacred art museum), Villefranche-de-Conflent (fortified town), St Michel de Cuxa (10th century Romanesque church).
Morning: St Genis des Fontaines (Romanesque sculptures) and Céret (provincial town frequented by turn of the century artists) for the Modern Art Museum (Picasso). Afternoon in Perpignan: old town, Hotel de Ville (Maillol sculpture), Palace of the Kings of Majorca.
Morning: Maître de Cabestany Museum. Afternoon: Forteresse de Salses (huge complex built to withstand early artillery).
Transfer to Toulouse (Musée des Augustins and St Sernin – time permitting). Depart Toulouse 1705, arriving Heathrow 1800.
