Newly revised for 2025, we are delighted to announce the return of one of our most popular music tours. For lovers of opera and classical music, there is nothing quite like the experience of live performances in New York’s world famous venues. Featuring a carefully chosen selection of operas and concerts courtesy of world class instrumentalists, conductors and singers, our tour will provide an engrossing introduction to the city’s musical heritage, interspersed with explorations of its architectural, artistic and political history.

Founded in 1883, the Metropolitan Opera stages a huge variety of operatic productions every year, ranging from the traditional to the modern and from Baroque compositions to works of the 21st century. Its iconic Upper West Side venue welcomes opera-goers under two huge Chagall murals; and as visitors progress into the auditorium, twelve dazzling chandeliers rise from Dress Circle level to the ceiling just minutes before each performance begins. In 2025 we will experience several operas here within a single week, brought to life by excellent international and American artists – many of them world renowned – alongside the company’s large symphony orchestra and chorus. Our 2020 tour, for example, featured performances from Sir Bryn Terfel, Joyce DiDonato and Vittorio Grigolo.

Our operatic programme will be enhanced by concerts at Carnegie Hall, resplendent with its grand Italianate façade, where well-known performers such as Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax regularly feature. Our Tour Director also has strong links with the Juilliard School, and we plan to offer a special access visit here, as well as an exclusive guest talk during one of our morning lectures.

Making the most of our time in New York, our itinerary will take in famous sites including Times Square, Central Park and the Empire State Building. Previous groups have also enjoyed views of the Statue of Liberty on a harbour tour. Complementing the music, our city explorations will feature artistic highlights, for example at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum and Frick Collection.

We anticipate a high level of interest in this tour, so would encourage you to register your interest to receive early booking information alongside the dates, performance details and cost as soon as they are available.

Tour Director Professor Ashley Solomon, FRAM, FRCM, is Chair and Head of Historical Performance at the Royal College of Music and Director of Baroque ensemble Florilegium. As a result of his commitment to editing and performing music from the Mission Churches of Chiquitos and Moxos Indians in Bolivia, Ashley was the first European to be awarded the coveted Hans Roth Prize in 2008. He is looking forward to taking an ACE group to experience the best classical music the city has to offer.
