Join ACE as we journey to Gustav Mahler’s “second musical homeland” for one of the biggest celebrations of the composer’s music in the world. The return of the Amsterdam festival – which has taken place only a handful of times since its inauguration in 1920 – is particularly highly anticipated after its cancellation in 2020, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to hear all of the composer’s symphonies over a ten day period.
At the heart of these concerts will be an equally eminent line-up of orchestras, ranging from the Budapest Festival Orchestra and an “impressively large” Chicago Symphony Orchestra, to the Berliner Philharmoniker (once led by Mahler) and the orchestra of the Royal Concertgebouw, where performances take place. Conductors including Jaap van Zweden, Daniel Barenboim, Kirill Petrenko, Iván Fischer and Klaus Mäkelä will all raise their batons in tribute to Mahler and his oeuvre.
In addition, the Recital Hall will host a series of more intimate performances, featuring all of Mahler’s songs brought to us by a range of internationally acclaimed artists and accompanied by English pianist Julius Drake.
Tickets for the main concerts will be Category 1, and tickets for the recitals Category 1+, providing the highest quality listening and viewing experience.
We also hope to include some local cultural visits, and will stay in accommodation of four-star and five-star standard.
We plan to release two tours, each covering one half of the festival; travellers can select one or the other departure, or book both and take in all seven daytime recitals and all ten main evening performances. Tour Director Russell Keable will accompany our first tour to the festival and Tour Director Michael Downes will lead the group for the second tour.
We anticipate a high level of interest for these tours, so please contact the ACE office to register your interest and be the first to receive the dates, itinerary and booking information when it becomes available.
