‘I, Clara’ – Life and Works of Clara Schumann with Dame Harriet Walter and Lucy
Parham (piano)

Each year music pilgrims flock to the beautiful Georgian city of Bath to enjoy a festival celebrating one of Europe’s favourite musical sons: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The festival – which has garnered critical acclaim for its high-calibre performers – showcases not only the music composed by Mozart but also that of composers for whom he provided inspiration. Performances take place in the stunning surroundings of Bath’s historical buildings, including the Guildhall, St Mary’s Bathwick and the soaring interiors of its iconic Abbey.

“(Adrian Brendel) brings a real star quality to the festival and introduced many of the events from the concert platform”

– Sandy Burnett reflecting on Bath Bachfest, 2026

This year will mark the first Mozartfest under the helm of new Artistic Director Adrian Brendel. The works of Mozart remain at the heart of each programme, while music from a range of classical greats will add context and depth to our understanding of Mozart’s genius, his impact, and the close artistic relationships that he forged with other composers – and which they, in turn, forged with him. Our tour will feature both evening and daytime performances, held across a variety of venues. For more information on the musical programme, please contact the ACE office.

SAXON, MEDIEVAL AND MODERN HISTORY IN BRADFORD-UPON-AVON

We are particularly delighted this year to have the opportunity to visit Bradford-upon-Avon, a charming market town with historical roots dating back to the 7th century. While here, we will enjoy a short walking tour taking in layers of history and architecture reflecting the town’s many centuries at the heart of the wool trade, complemented by a daytime concert.

Alongside the musical programme, our itinerary will take in complementary cultural treats on offer in Bath. A visit to the Holburne Museum – home to Sir William Holburne’s collection of fine and decorative arts – will include both an on-site lecture with our Tour Director and a guided tour of the collections. We will also make an excursion to Wells, England’s smallest city, to tour its beautiful Gothic cathedral and visit the Bishop’s Palace (subject to events).

We will stay at The Bird, Bath, a delightful four-star boutique hotel chosen particularly for its close proximity to St Mary’s Bathwick and the Holburne Museum. Occupying an elegant Victorian villa, the property’s characterful rooms are individually furnished and of differing sizes.

This tour will be led by Sandy Burnett, MA, a musician and broadcaster who spent over a decade as one of the best-known classical music presenters on BBC Radio 3. He has conducted the major sacred works by J S Bach, and has also masterminded a complete cycle of the composer’s sacred cantatas. Following many successful tours to Bath in recent years, Sandy looks forward to returning to the Mozartfest with another ACE group in 2026.

“The Bath Mozartfest is a tried and tested success for us at ACE Cultural Tours – I love how this tour has built up a strong body of returning regulars who come back to join us here year after year, and it’s always wonderful to welcome new travellers to the festival. I’m really looking forward to seeing what fresh ideas incoming Festival Director Adrian Brendel is going to bring to this November’s event. At the 2026 Bachfest, Brendel’s new approach was immediately noticeable with a change in programming style and in his presence onstage as a performer.”
