Itinerary

Day

1

Tour assembles 1200 at the Worcester Whitehouse Hotel for four nights. Afternoon festival concert at Malven Priory with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain Fellowship Octet: Twenty Something. Evening concert in Worcester Cathedral with Sarah Connolly (mezzo-soprano) and Frank Beermann (conductor): Strauss Metamorphosen; Torsten Rasch A Welsh Night (world premiere); Janáček Glagolitic Mass.

2

Morning lecture and guided tour of Pershore Abbey. Festival concert at Pershore Abbey: Proteus Ensemble An English Celebration. Afternoon festival concert in Worcester Cathedral: Tudor Masterpieces: music by Taverner, Byrd and Tallis.

Day

3

Morning lecture followed by festival concert at Worcester Cathedral: Wayne Marshall Organ Recital. Excursion into Malvern Hills with visits to Lower Broadheath (Elgar’s birthplace) and Little Malvern (Elgar family graves at St Wulstan’s Church). Evening concert in Worcester Cathedral: Mozart ‘Great’ Mass in C minor; Shostakovich Symphony No 12 in D minor The Year 1917.

4

Morning lecture followed by walking tour of Worcester. Afternoon concert at Worcester Cathedral with the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge. Evening concert in Worcester Cathedral: Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music; Finzi Dies Natalis; Howells Hymnus Paradisi.
