Itinerary

Day

1

Tour assembles 1600 at Alnmouth railway station, 1630 at Marshall Meadows Country House Hotel, for five nights. Welcome drink and introductory lecture.

Day

2

Whole-day excursion to Lindisfarne: site of 11th century priory, exploration of island shore with waders and salt marsh vegetation.

Day

3

Whole-day boat trip around the Farne Islands, sailing from Seahouses: land on Staple Island (puffins, kittiwakes, guillemots), cruise around Longstone (grey seal colony) and land on Inner Farne (huge Arctic tern colony).

Day

4

Morning: boat excursion to Bass Rock followed by Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick. Afternoon: St Abb’s Head (cliffs with spectacular views, over 40,000 breeding seabirds).

Day

5

Whole-day excursion in the Cheviot Hills in Northumberland National Park: walk in the uplands and around Chillingham Castle (wild cattle).

Day

6

Tour disperses after breakfast, with optional transfer to Alnmouth railway station.
