Wildlife at Minsmere
8 Jun — 8 Jun 2021 | Tour Director: Kevin Hand
Join ACE Tour Director Kevin Hand for a day’s exploration of one of the finest nature reserves in Europe, Minsmere on the Suffolk coast. As well as being one of the country’s premier bird-watching sites, the reserve is home to a huge diversity of other wildlife and offers a variety of habitats, including dunes, heaths and reedbeds, which we will explore on this new day course.
A walk will take us to woodland areas as well as the coast, and we hope to hear from a warden to learn more about the intricacies of reserve management, the challenges faced and the successes achieved at Minsmere. Wildlife permitting, we should enjoy a variety of birds: from bittern, bearded tit and Dartford warbler to perhaps some more rare and unusual species too.
The approaching dusk brings the chance of red deer, otters and a large starling murmuration. For those who wish to, there is the opportunity to join Kevin afterwards at a traditional smuggler’s inn on the edge of the marshes to reflect on the day.
"This is one of my favourite nature areas, and I am really looking forward to sharing a day here with you."
