Itinerary

Day

1

Tour assembles 1400 at DoubleTree Hilton Hotel for three nights. Afternoon: guided walking tour of Cambridge followed by the Parker Library and Corpus Christi College (rare books and manuscripts). Evening: introductory talk.

Day

2

Morning lecture: The Fitzwilliam Museum: Private Collectors, Public Collections. Whole day visit to the Fitzwilliam Museum including introductory tour, private visit to the Founder’s Library (viewing Lord Fitzwilliam’s books and manuscripts with Suzanne Reynolds, Assistant Keeper, Manuscripts and Printed Books) followed by tour of newly opened Parian Ware exhibition and viewing of ceramics collection with Helen Ritchie (Research Assistant, Applied Arts).

Day

3

Morning lecture: Expeditions and Artefacts given by Sarah Jane Harknett of the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, followed by visits to the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and Museum of Zoology. Afternoon: University Botanic Garden, Herbarium.

Day

4

Morning lecture: 20th Century Cambridge Collections. Kettle’s Yard: curator-led tour of new building and private visit to house. Afternoon: private tour of New Hall Art Collection at Murray Edwards College, tea in the Senior Common Room. Tour disperses 1630 at hotel.
