Flight from London Heathrow to Zurich. Transfer to Mellau for seven nights at Hotel Kreuz. Welcome and introduction.



Morning lecture followed by gentle alpine walk with local guide. Free afternoon. Evening song recital at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Christoph Prégardien (tenor), Olivier Darbellay (horn) and Michael Gees (piano): Schubert songs including ‘Willkommen und Abschied’, ‘Die Sterne’, ‘Im Abendrot’, ‘Der Zwerg’ and ‘Auf dem Strom’; Britten three songs from The Heart of the Matter, Canticle III; Lachner songs including ‘Die Seejungfern’, ‘Der wunde Ritter’ and ‘Ein Traumbild’; Kreutzer ‘Das Mühlrad’.



Morning lecture followed by guided tour of Schwarzenberg: Heimathaus, church (containing work by Angelika Kauffmann). Afternoon piano recital at the Kauffmann Hall featuring David Fray: Schubert Impromptus Nos 1 and 3, D 899 (Op 90), Fantasy in C, D 760 ‘Wanderer Fantasy’, Sonata in B flat, D 960. Evening song recital at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Katharina Konradi (soprano), Julia Kleiter (soprano), Sophie Rennert (mezzo-soprano), Tara Erraught (mezzo-soprano) and Wolfram Rieger (piano): Schubert songs including Psalm 23, ‘Das Leben’, ‘Die Liebende schreibt’ and ‘Der Tod und das Mädchen’; Mendelssohn Six Duets, Op 63; Schumann Three Songs for Three Female Voices, Op 114; Brahms Four Duets, Op 61, Deutsche Volkslieder.



Excursion by coach to the Lake Constance area, including a visit to the picturesque town of Lindau. Evening song recital at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Andrè Schuèn (baritone) and Daniel Heide (piano): Schubert Winterreise.



Morning: depart by coach for Hohenems for guided tour of the Jewish Museum. Afternoon song recital at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Sophie Rennert (mezzo-soprano) and Joseph Middleton (piano): Schubert songs including ‘Lied des Orpheus’, ‘Die Spinnerin’ and ‘Gretchen im Zwinger’; Mahler songs including ‘Erinnerung’, ‘Lied des Verfolgten im Turm’ and songs based on poems by Friedrich Rückert. Evening chamber concert at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Renaud Capuçon (violin), Victor Julien-Laferrière (cello) and David Fray (piano): Schubert Arpeggione Sonata in A minor, D 821, Violin Sonata in A, D 574, Piano Trio in B flat, D 898.



Morning: visit to Rieger Orgelbau workshop and to Egg (spectacular views across the Vorarlberg mountains). Afternoon chamber concert at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Mandelring Quartet with Josef Gilgenreiner (double bass) and Shani Diluka (piano): Dvořák’s String Quartet in F, Op 96 ‘American’; Schubert Piano Quintet in A, D 667 ‘Trout’. Evening song recital recital at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Violeta Urmana (mezzo-soprano) and Helmut Deutsch (piano): Schubert songs including ‘Schwanengesang’ (D 744), ‘Drang in die Ferne’ and ‘Auf der Bruck’; Mahler Songs of a Wayfarer and other works.



Morning lecture followed by chamber concert at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Baiba Skride (violin), Julia-Maria Kretz (violin), Pauline Sachse (viola), Harriet Krijgh (cello) and Victor Julien-Laferrière (cello): Lachner String Quintet in C, Op 121; Schubert String Quintet in C, D 956. Free afternoon. Evening piano recital at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Francesco Piemontesi: Schubert Allegretto in C minor, D 915, Six Musical Moments, D 780, Sonata in A, D 959.



Visit to Sammlung Oskar Reinhart. Flight from Zurich to London Heathrow.

While this tour is not expected to be particularly strenuous, participants should be comfortable walking over cobbles (which may be slippery when wet), and negotiating occasionally steep inclines, steps and rugged terrain (particularly those joining the alpine walk on day 2). The journey to and from Zurich airport is approximately two and a half hours.


For customers who wish to make their own travel arrangements, ACE is pleased to be able to offer a flight reduction of £180.

Cost of £3095 includes: return airfare, accommodation based on sharing a double bedded room (with balcony), performances as described, breakfast, four lunches, dinner with water & coffee, excursions & admissions, gratuities.
