Depart Heathrow 1325 on British Airways, arriving Budapest 1650. Transfer to K&K Opera Hotel for six nights. Introductory lecture.
Morning: Great Market Hall (the largest indoor market in the city) followed by a visit to the National Museum. Afternoon: visit to the Liszt Ferenc Memorial Museum (with private recital).
New Year’s Eve Morning: Parliament House followed by walking tour in the city centre. Afternoon in Pest including guided tour of State Opera House. New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner at local restaurant.
New Year’s Day Morning: architectural walk including St Stephen’s Basilica. Celebratory New Year’s Day lunch at a local restaurant followed by free afternoon and evening. Optional visit to the Gellért Thermal Bath.
Morning: optional walking tour including Heroes’ Square (home to the Millennium Monument, built in 1896). Late afternoon Danube river cruise. Evening lecture.
Hungarian National Gallery (temporarily housing several masterpieces from the Museum of Fine Arts). Castle District in Buda: walking tour including Matthias Church and Royal Palace (exteriors). Afternoon visit to the Liszt Academy.
Depart Budapest 1225, arriving Heathrow 1415.
