Day

1

Depart Heathrow 1355 on British Airways, arriving JFK New York 1710.

Day

2

Morning: orientation tour including Broadway, Times Square, Washington Square, Greenwich Village, Financial District, Ground Zero and Central Park. Evening performance at the Metropolitan Opera with Maurizio Benini (conductor): Bellini I puritani.

Day

3

Visits to the Empire State Building and the Lincoln Centre. Evening performance at Carnegie Hall with Jonathan Biss and the Brentano String Quartet: Schumann Fünf Gesänge der Frühe; Gesualdo Selected Madrigals; Brahms Klavierstücke, Op 118; Mozart String Quintet in E-flat Major, K614.

Day

4

Tour of New York Harbour (including views of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island). Evening performance at the Metropolitan Opera with Nicola Luisotti (conductor): Verdi La traviata.

Day

5

Lecture followed by visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Afternoon at the Frick Collection (masterpieces of European painting and sculpture). Performance at Carnegie Hall with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Franz Welser-Möst (conductor) and Rudolf Buchbinder (piano): Brahms Piano Concerto No 1; Schubert Symphony No 8 Unfinished; Bartók The Miraculous Mandarin Suite.

6

Morning: Guggenheim Museum followed by farewell lunch. Transfer to JFK New York for 2045 departure.
