Depart Gatwick 1010 on British Airways, arriving Salzburg 1310. Transfer to Hotel am Mirabellplatz for five nights. Short orientation walking tour. Evening concert at the Stiftung Mozarteum featuring the Mahler Chamber Orchestra with Mitsuko Uchida (piano): Mozart Concerto in F major, K 459, Concerto in D minor, K 466, Quintet in E flat major, K 407.
Whole day excursion to the Salzkammergut area: private visit to the Kaiservilla (summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I) and visit to church in St Wolfgang. Continue to Mahler’s summer cottage on Lake Attersee (weather permitting). Free evening.
Morning lecture followed by late morning concert at the Stiftung Mozarteum (details TBC). Afternoon concert at the Stiftung Mozarteum featuring Daniel Barenboim (piano), Michael Barenboim (violin), Yulia Deyneka (viola), Kian Soltani (cello) and Daniel Ottensamer (clarinet): Mozart Quartet in G minor, K 478, Quartet in E flat major, K 493, Trio in E flat major (‘Kegelstatt Trio’), K 498. Evening concert at the Haus fur Mozart featuring the Orchestre des Champs-Elysées with the Collegium Vocale Gent, Philippe Herreweghe (conductor) and soloists: Mozart Mass in C minor, K 427.
Morning lecture followed by guided walking tour of Salzburg to include Mozart’s birthplace. Afternoon: Mozart’s Wohnhaus with guided tour of original archives in the Mozarteum’s Autograph Vault. Evening concert at the Stiftung Mozarteum featuring Daniel Barenboim (piano), Michael Barenboim (violin) and Kian Soltani (cello): Mozart Divertimento in B flat major, K 254, Trio in E major, K 542, Trio in C major, K 548.
Morning lecture followed by Salzburg Residenz and free time (optional visit to Cathedral and Franciscan church). Afternoon concert at the Stiftung Mozarteum featuring Daniel Barenboim (piano), Michael Barenboim (violin) and Kian Soltani (cello): Mozart Trio (Sonata) in G major, K 496, Trio in B flat major, K 502, Trio in G major, K 564. Evening concert at the Haus fur Mozart featuring the Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna Singverein, Andrés Orozco-Estrada (conductor) and soloists: Mozart Masonic Funeral Music, K 477, Adagio and fugue in C minor, K 546, Symphony in G minor, K 183, Requiem in D minor, K 626.
Depart Salzburg 1105, arriving Gatwick 1205.
