Depart London Heathrow 0920 on British Airways, arriving Mykonos 1520. Welcome, introduction and evening talk: Delos. Overnight on Mykonos.
Morning sail to Delos (birthplace of Apollo and Artemis): Sacred Harbour, Agora of the Competialists, Sacred Way, House of the Naxians, Avenue of the Lions. Return to Mykonos before afternoon transfer by boat to Tinos. Two nights on Tinos.
Visits on Tinos including 4th century BC Temple of Poseidon at Kionia, Pyrgos (marble workshops) and Volax (basket weavers). Evening talk: Cycladic Art.
Archaeological Museum and marble Church of Panagia Evangelistria (miraculous icon). Sail to Syros for visits to towns of Ermoupolis and Ano Syros. Sail to Paros for two nights.
Visits by boat to small islands of Antiparos and Despotiko (archaeological site).
Morning in Parikia: Byzantine Church of Panagia Ekatontapiliani, Archaeological Museum (Parian Chronicle, artefacts from Saliagos, the Aegean’s oldest settlement), typical Aegean villages of Prodromos and Lefkés. Afternoon visit to Naoussa (winery, historical harbour). Sail to Naxos for three nights. Evening talk: Greek Religion.
Morning: Sanctuary of Dionysus at Yria and Sanctuary of Demeter at Giroulas, followed by historical Venetian Quarter in Naxos and Catholic Cathedral. Free afternoon.
Further visits on Naxos including picturesque village of Halki (tasting session at Kitros distillery), Panagia Drossiani monastery (6th century Greek Orthodox) and 7th century Kouros statue at Melanes.
Morning: visits to Temple of Apollo and Grotta archaeological site in Naxos. Afternoon: transfer by boat to Santorini (spectacular geological setting with beautiful whitewashed buildings) for two nights. Evening talk: Atlantis.
Akrotiri (important Bronze Age settlement), Panagia Episkopi and Museum of Prehistoric Thera (frescoes and artefacts from Akrotiri). Afternoon in Oia (19th century sea captains’ houses).
Depart Santorini 1710 on British Airways, arriving London Heathrow 1910.

FITNESS / PRACTICALITIES
A good level of fitness is required for this tour. As much of the travel involves ferries, participants should be comfortable wheeling luggage up boarding ramps. Some of the archaeological visits will involve walking over uneven ground. At Delos, there will be an optional short ascent up a steep and poorly maintained pathway to visit the upper part of the island’s impressive remains.
Cost of £3245 includes: return airfare, accommodation based on sharing a twin or double bedded room, breakfast, dinner with wine, water & coffee, excursions & admissions, gratuities.
Not included: travel insurance, single room supplement £520.
