Itinerary

Day

1

Tour assembles 1300 at Lee Wood Hotel, Buxton, for four nights. Afternoon: introductory lecture and orientation tour, followed by festival concert with Quatour Mosaiques (string quartet): Haydn String Quartet in F minor, Op 20 No 5; Mozart String Quartet in G, K 387; Borodin String Quartet No 2 in D.

2

Morning lecture followed by festival literary talk with Martin Pearce: Spymaster. Lunchtime festival performance with Roderick Williams (baritone) and Iain Burnside (piano): Schubert Die Schöne Müllerin. Afternoon: festival performance with Joo Yeon Sir (violin) and Irina Andrievsky (piano): Bach-Mendelssohn Chaconne from Partita No 2 in D minor, BWV 1004 arranged for Violin and Piano; Grief Sonata No 2, Op 13 for Violin and Piano; Tchaikovsky Melodie from ‘Souvenir d’un lieu cher’, Op 42; Tchaikovsky Valse-Scherzo, Op 34; Waxman Carmen Fantasy. Evening festival opera: Verdi Macbeth.

Day

3

Morning lecture followed by free time. Afternoon festival opera: Britten Albert Herring. Independent dinner. Evening festival literary talk: Facing the Music – A Life in Musical Theatre: Patricia Routledge in Conversation with Edward Seckerson.

4

Excursion to Chatsworth House (stately home with expansive parkland). Evening festival opera: Mozart Lucio Silla.

Tour disperses after breakfast.
