Itinerary

Day

1

Depart Heathrow 0955 on British Airways for Copenhagen, arriving 1250. Transfer to 71 Nyhavn Hotel for four nights. Orientation walking tour including Kastellet, Little Mermaid, Churchill Park and visit to Thorvaldsens Museum (museum of eponymous sculptor, one of world’s great neoclassical artists).

Day

2

Morning lecture: Treasures of the Statens Museum for Kunst followed by first visit to museum (Old Masters including Mantegna, Rubens, Tiepolo) followed by Christiansborg Palace (royal reception rooms). Free evening.

Day

3

Morning lecture: Danish 19th Century Painting and Sculpture followed by Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (important Danish and European 19th century paintings and sculpture) and the Royal Copenhagen flagship store. Free evening.

Day

4

Second visit to Statens Museum for Kunst (19th and 20th century paintings including large collection of Matisse) followed by Hirschsprung Collection (Danish ‘Golden Age’ paintings).

5

Depart Copenhagen 1345, arriving Heathrow 1455.
