Depart London Heathrow for Geneva. Transfer by train along the length of Lake Geneva and up into the mountains to Bern for five nights at Best Western Plus Hotel Bern. Evening lecture: 19th Century Encounters with the Alps.
Morning walking tour of Bern: arcades, Rathaus, Zytglogge (Clock Tower), Bern Minster (exterior), Bear Garden. Afternoon visit to Kunstmuseum Bern (significant collection of 15th-20th century western art, including Monet and Hodler).
Whole day excursion by train to Basel: visit to Kunstmuseum (impressive collection of art, particularly of the 19th and 20th centuries), Minster (exterior), Old Town, Museum Tinguely (moving sculptures).
Whole day excursion by train to Lucerne: visit to Rosengart Collection (formerly private collection, rich in 19th and 20th century art including Picasso, Pissarro and Klee) and cruise upon Lake Lucerne. Free evening in Bern.
Morning lecture: 20th Century Modernism followed by visit to Paul Klee Museum. By coach and funicular to Gurten mountain.
Depart Geneva for Heathrow.

FITNESS / PRACTICALITIES
A good level of fitness is required for this tour, as it will involve a significant amount of walking and standing, including over cobbled streets and uneven surfaces. The itinerary incorporates several journeys made by public transport, including train and tram. We also hope to feature a journey by funicular to Gurten Mountain, as well as a cruise on Lake Lucerne.
For customers who wish to make their own travel arrangements, ACE are pleased to be able to offer a reduction of £180.
Cost of £2345 includes: return airfare, accommodation based on sharing a double bedded room, breakfast, four dinners with water & coffee, excursions & admissions, gratuities.
