Assemble 1500 at the White Lion Hotel Aldeburgh for four nights. Introductory talk and orientation walking tour. Evening festival concert at Snape Maltings featuring Iestyn Davies (Oberon), Sophie Bevan (Tytania) and Ryan Wigglesworth (conductor), directed and designed by Netia Jones: Britten A Midsummer Night’s Dream.



Morning lecture followed by festival concert at the Britten Studio featuring Tamsin Waley-Cohen (violin) and Huw Watkins (piano): Waley-Cohen & Watkins: music by Schubert, Ravel, Oliver Knussen, Janáček and Huw Watkins. Afternoon visit to the Red House (Britten’s home 1857-76) including the house, exhibitions, library, composition studio and garden. Continue to Blythburgh Church for evening festival concert featuring Saint Ephraim Male Choir and Nishat Khan (sitar): Meeting of Angels.



Morning lecture followed by festival concert at the Jubilee Hall, Aldeburgh, featuring the Castalian Quartet: Britten-Pears Young Artists Alumni I: Webern Six Bagatelles; Schumann String Quartet No 1 in A minor; Brahms String Quartet No 3 in B-flat major. Afternoon visit to the Old Mill (Britten lived here 1943-47 when he composed Peter Grimes) followed by evening festival concert at Snape Maltings featuring Pierre-Laurent Aimard (piano): music by Bach, Schubert, Chopin, Schumann and Bartók.



Morning guest lecture by Humphrey Burton: Benjamin Britten and his Suffolk Connections. Afternoon: festival recital featuring Claire Wild (soprano) in an original production concept by David Pountney, directed for the Aldeburgh Festival by Mathilde Lopez: Poulenc La Voix Humaine. Evening festival concert in Snape Maltings featuring the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with Antoine Tamestit (viola), Aldeburgh Voices, Aldeburgh Music Club and Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla (conductor): Beethoven Leonore Overture; Jörg Widmann Viola Concerto (UK premiere); Britten The Building of the House; Beethoven Symphony No 5.
