“Imogen is one of the greatest musicians England has produced. She's utterly

without show. Mozart, Schumann and Schubert could have been written for her.

There's a poetic, reflective side to her which is always there in her playing.”

- Sir Simon Rattle

Dame Imogen Cooper is a pianist, regarded as one of the finest interpreters of classical and Romantic repertoire. At a young age she moved to Paris to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique before later relocating to Vienna to study under Alfred Brendel.

Imogen Cooper has had a widespread career performing with many international orchestras including the New York Philharmonic and the Leipzig Gewandhaus. She is well acquainted with all the major British orchestras, and has also performed at the BBC Proms.

“I came to contemporary music late, being of a generation, now past, I am glad

to say, who grew up within choices made – you were a soloist, or an accompanist,

or a chamber music player, or a contemporary music specialist.

Labelling may be easier for the music business to deal with, but a rounded

musician should experience it all.”

She is well known for her Schubert and Schumann interpretations but boasts a broad repertoire including modern, chamber and lieder performances.

In 2019, Imogen Cooper received the Queen’s Medal for Music award and in 2021 she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to music.

“I suggest that the need to compose and the need to perform publicly are

intertwined in their energies. It stems from the language of music having

a quite extraordinary power to pinpoint and localise both the numinous and

the dark shadow areas of the human soul, and to give them voice.”

The Imogen Cooper Music Trust was founded in 2015 with the goal of offering gifted young musicians the opportunity to gain unparalleled access to study with distinguished musicians and renowned pianist Imogen Cooper herself.

The intensive study periods are aimed to support musicians in a critical period of developing their practice. The Imogen Cooper Music Trust offers artists a peaceful location where they can be fully immersed in practice and performance. The UK’s leading music colleges are invited to send their most promising students to audition, and the most talented and full of potential amongst them are accepted.

The outstanding alumni of the Imogen Cooper Music Trust and Dame Imogen Cooper will perform during a series of private concerts on our tour. In addition to the concert series we will enjoy a masterclass led by Imogen Cooper.
