A very happy birthday to Cambridge’s Fitzwilliam Museum! As an official partner in the celebrations, ACE Cultural Tours is delighted to be supporting the Museum in its bicentenary year.

2016 promises to be the perfect time to visit the Museum, when major exhibitions will explore two of the Fitzwilliam’s most treasured collections: ancient Egyptian coffins and illuminated manuscripts.

Later this year, our special tour Cambridge Collections: Celebrating the Fitzwilliam Museum’s Bicentenary (dates available in September and November) will examine the wealth of the Museum’s collections, with highlights including private guest lectures and behind-the-scenes visits. Enjoy special access to curators and conservators, as well as a privileged meeting with the Museum’s director, Tim Knox.

In addition we will view the museum’s ground breaking bicentenary exhibition COLOUR: the Art and Science of Mediaeval and Renaissance Illuminated Manuscripts, following an introduction by the exhibition’s curator. The exhibition – displaying over 100 of the museum’s finest illuminated manuscripts from the leading artistic centres of mediaeval and Renaissance Europe – examines the artistic, intellectual and historic significance of the manuscripts as well as revealing the latest research about the pigments and techniques used to create these masterpieces.

Our tour will also take in the important and fascinating collections found in other Cambridge museums – from the captivating collections of Pacific explorers such as Captain Cook in the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, to the world-renowned collection of rocks, fossils and minerals in the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences.
