Itinerary

Day

1

Tour assembles 1315 at Liverpool Marriott Hotel City for three nights (1400 at Lime Street railway station). Afternoon: Liverpool Town Hall, Liverpool Cathedral (Giles Gilbert Scott). Evening talk by guest lecturer: Poetry, Passion and Pre-Raphaelites.

Day

2

Knowsley Hall (seat of the Earls of Derby), Port Sunlight Village (garden village founded in 1888 to house soap factory workers), Lady Lever Art Gallery (outstanding collections of Wedgwood and Chinese porcelain). Evening talk by guest lecturer: Speke Hall.

Day

3

Morning: Mersey Ferry cruise, Albert Dock (independent visits: Tate Liverpool, Merseyside Maritime Museum, International Museum of Slavery). Afternoon: Speke Hall (Tudor manor house). Evening lecture: Liverpool, City of Delight.

Day

4

Ullet Road Unitarian Church (stained glass by William Morris), Princes Road Synagogue (Moorish revival style architecture), Walker Art Gallery (superb collection of fine and decorative arts). Tour disperses 1600 at hotel (via Lime Street station).
