Itinerary

Day

1

Depart St Pancras 0917 on Eurostar, arriving Paris Gare du Nord 1257. Transfer to Millennium Hotel Paris Opéra for three nights. Afternoon: walking tour including the Grands Boulevards, 19th century ‘passages’ and a visit to Hôtel Drouot (auction house specialising in fine art and antiques). Introductory lecture: Paris 1900.

2

Morning: optional walking tour followed by Musée Nissim de Camondo (18th century French decorative arts) and Musée Jacquemart-André (impressive collection accumulated during the 19th and 20th centuries by banker Edouard André and his artist wife Nélie Jacquemart). Afternoon: Musée des Arts Décoratifs (jewellery by Lalique and Fouquet and late 19th century interiors). Evening lecture: Art Nouveau.

Day

3

Morning: tour of Palais Garnier (opulent design by Charles Garnier) followed by a museum visit. Afternoon: continue to the Church of St Paul and St Louis (painting by Delacroix) followed by Maxim’s de Paris (Art Nouveau interior and museum with collection by Pierre Cardin).

4

Morning: guided tour of Hôtel de la Païva (luxurious palace created for the courtesan La Païva). Depart Paris Gare du Nord 1613, arriving St Pancras 1739.
