Depart Heathrow 0910 on Singapore Airlines via Singapore to Hanoi.
Arrive Hanoi 1140. Transfer to Silk Path Luxury Hotel for three nights. Afternoon walk in Old Hanoi including Temple of Literature, Cathedral and Ngoc Son Temple.
Whole day excursion by boat along scenic waterways and by road through the mountains to Perfume Pagoda (famous Buddhist pagoda situated in a huge limestone cave).
Morning in Hanoi: Fine Arts Museum followed by orientation tour to include One Pillar Pagoda, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (exterior only), Tran Quoc Pagoda and Quan Thanh Temple. Afternoon excursion to 11th century Thay Pagoda (home of water puppetry) and Tay Phuong Pagoda (wonderful collection of 17th century Buddhist statues).
Whole day excursion visiting Temples of Dinh and Le dynasties at Hoa Lu, continuing to Tam Coc Caves (known as ‘Dry Halong Bay’) and Bich Dong Pagoda. Overnight stay at Ninh Binh Hidden Charm Hotel.
Visits to Phat Diem Cathedral and 12th century Keo Pagoda (masterpiece of traditional Vietnamese architecture). Continue to Hai Phong for overnight stay at Avani Hai Phong Hotel. Short orientation tour of Hai Phong to include Du Hang Pagoda.
Transfer to Ha Long for overnight cruise on traditional junk including Ha Long Bay (UNESCO World Heritage site), limestone mountain islands, enormous caves and floating fishermen villages.
Morning: continue Ha Long Bay cruise to Ha Long Bay City. Afternoon: via But Thap and Dau Pagodas to Hanoi. Fly to Hué and transfer to La Residence Hotel for two nights.
By dragon boat on Huong (Perfume River) for visits to Thien Mu Pagoda with its beautiful gardens, Temple of Literature and Garden Houses. Visit Hué Imperial City, including Forbidden Purple City and Royal Citadel, followed by Museum of Antiquities at former Long An Dien Palace.
Further visits in Hué: Redemptorist Church, Tu Dam Pagoda, royal tombs of King Tu Duc, Khai Dinh (eccentric mix of Gothic, Baroque and Chinese architecture), Minh Mang tomb. Afternoon: Lang Co (views of peninsula and bay), Hai Van Pass (‘Pass of the Ocean Clouds’), Da Nang (visit to Cham Museum with Hindu-inspired carvings). Continue to historic town of Hoi An for two nights at Anantara Hoi An Resort.
Morning visit to UNESCO World Heritage site of My Son (capital and religious centre of the Champa Kingdom): Cham sanctuary complex with 7th–13th century towers, temples and tombs set in lush valley. Afternoon architectural visits in Hoi An: Folk Museum, Tan Ky House, Quan Cong Temple and a Chinese assembly hall.
Fly to Nha Trang for overnight stay at Star City Hotel. Afternoon: visits to Long Son Pagoda and Po Nagar Cham Towers (sacred Hindu pilgrimage site dating back to the 2nd century AD) and cruise taking in offshore islands in Nha Trang Bay (time permitting).
Fly to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) for two nights at Grand Saigon Hotel. Early afternoon walking tour in colonial quarter, to include Hotel de Ville, Reunification Palace and Municipal Theatre, followed by some free time.
Visits in Ho Chi Minh City: Jade Emperor Pagoda (built by the Cantonese community), Fine Arts Museum, Ho Chi Minh City Museum and Giac Lam Pagoda.
