Itinerary

Day

1

Depart Heathrow 0930 on British Airways, arriving Zurich 1220. Transfer to Mellau for seven nights at Hotel Kreuz. Orientation walking tour of Mellau followed by evening introductory lecture.

Day

2

Morning lecture followed by visit to Rieger Orgelbau workshop and to Egg (spectacular views across the Vorarlberg mountains). Afternoon: free time in Mellau followed by recital by the Tour Director at Mellau church. Evening recital at the Kauffmann Hall, featuring Elisabeth Leonskaja (piano): Schubert Sonata in E major, D 459/459A; Sonata in A minor, D 537; Sonata in G major, D 894.

3

Morning: depart by coach for Hohenems for guided tour of the Jewish Museum and visit to the Legge Museum. Afternoon song recital at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Elisabeth Kulman (mezzosoprano) and Eduard Kutrowatz (piano): works by Schubert, Kroll and Wagner. Evening chamber concert at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Artemis Quartet and Elisabeth Leonskaja (piano): Schumann Quartet in A minor, Op 41/1; Quartet in A major, Op 41/3; Quintet in E flat major, Op 44.

4

Morning lecture followed by guided tour of Schwarzenberg: Heimathaus, museum, church containing work by Angelika Kauffmann. Afternoon concert at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Andrè Schuen (baritone) and Daniel Heide (piano): Schubert ‘Die schöne Müllerin’. Evening chamber concert at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Hagen Quartet and Danjulo Ishizaka (cello): Beethoven Quartet in A major, Op 18/5; Webern Six bagatelles for string quartet, Op 9; Schubert Quintet in C major, D 956.

5

Morning excursion to north shore of Lake Constance, including visit to Birnau for Rococo pilgrimage church. Afternoon visit to Meersburg Old Castle. Evening recital at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Elisabeth Kulman (mezzosoprano) and Daniel Behle (tenor): selection of works by Schubert.

Day

6

Excursion to Lindau and Bregenz (Pfänderbahn to the top of the mountain). Evening piano recital at the Kauffmann Hall featuring András Schiff (piano): Mendelssohn Fantasy in F sharp minor, Op 28; Beethoven Sonata in F sharp major, Op 78; Brahms Eight pieces for piano, Op 76; Schubert Sonata in A major, D 959.

Day

7

Morning: optional gentle Alpine walk with local guide. Afternoon chamber concert at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Julia Fischer (violin), Nils Mönkemeyer (viola) and Daniel Müller-Schott (cello): Beethoven Trio in C minor, Op 9/3; Martinů Trio No 2; Schubert Trio in B major, D 581. Evening song recital at the Kauffmann Hall featuring Daniel Behle (tenor) and Oliver Schnyder (piano): Schubert ‘Winterreise’.

Depart for Zurich via Winterthur for visit to Museum Oskar Reinhart. Depart Zurich 1825, arriving Heathrow 1915.
