Depart St Pancras 0858 on Eurostar and TGV via Lille, arriving Avignon 1705. Transfer to Aigues-Mortes and embark Le Phénicien for six nights. Evening: welcome reception and overnight at Aigues-Mortes.
Morning cruise along the Petit Rhône to Arles for walking tour including St Trophime (Romanesque church with superb sculptures), Les Arènes (1st century BC amphitheatre) and Roman theatre. Evening lecture: Provençalism. Overnight at Arles.
Morning cruise to Villeneuve-lès-Avignon: walking tour including Tour Philippe-le-Bel and Fort Saint-André (exteriors only), Musée Pierre-de-Luxembourg (16th and 17th century Provençal painting) and Chartreuse du Val de Bénédiction. Afternoon: excursion to Pont du Gard (great Roman monument with museum). Evening lecture: The Medieval Papacy. Overnight at Villeneuve-lès-Avignon.
Disembark Le Phénicien. Depart Avignon 1004 on TGV and Eurostar via Lille, arriving St Pancras 1602.
