Itinerary

Day

1

Depart Heathrow 1025 on British Airways, arriving Milan Linate 1325. Transfer to the Grande Albergo Roma, Piacenza, for four nights.

Day

2

Piacenza: cathedral, Piazza Cavalli, Santa Maria di Campagna (frescoes by Il Pordenone), private visits to the Palazzo Malvicini-Fontana, pre-Romanesque crypt of Santa Liberata and Palazzo Rota Pisaroni.

Day

3

Travel up the Trebbia Valley to Bobbio (famous hunchback bridge, basilica with Gothic wooden choir and fine 12th century mosaic floor). Return via Castello di Rivalta and the neo-Gothic village of Grazzano Visconti.

Day

4

Morning: Chiaravalle della Colomba (well-preserved Cistercian monastery), medieval town of Castell’Arquato. Return to Piacenza via Collegio Alberoni with its art gallery (Ecce Homo by Antonello da Messina).

Day

5

Morning visit to the Civic Museums of the Palazzo Farnese (famous bronze Etruscan liver, painting by Botticelli). Depart Milan Linate 1550, arriving Heathrow 1655.
