Itinerary

Day

1

Depart Heathrow 0930 on Aer Lingus for Cork, arriving 1050. Afternoon in Cork: Anglican cathedral (High Victorian masterpiece by William Burges), Catholic cathedral, Honan Chapel (exceptional Irish Arts and Crafts interior). Six nights at Maryborough House Hotel.

2

Youghal (one of Ireland’s most unspoiled medieval churches), private visit (with lunch) to neo-classical Cappoquin House (charming interiors and contents), Tourin (gardens poised above the Blackwater river).

3

Bantry House (imposing Georgian mansion with fine gardens overlooking Bantry Bay), Ilnacullin Gardens on Garinish Island.

Fota House (Regency house in fine grounds), Ormonde Castle (with Ireland’s earliest long gallery), Curraghmore (seat of the Marquess of Waterford, with outstanding James Wyatt interiors).

Ruins of 17th century Burncourt, Cahir (impressive medieval castle, romantic Swiss Cottage), Sir Edward Lovett Pearce’s Cashel Palace (with lunch), walk through gardens to Rock of Cashel (remarkable medieval acropolis).

Riverstown House (Rococo plasterwork), private lunch at Kilshannig (superb plasterwork), Lismore (Irish seat of Dukes of Devonshire): castle gardens, charming medieval cathedral.

Harbour town of Kinsale (well preserved 17th century Charles Fort and medieval church). Depart Cork 1600, arriving Heathrow 1720.
