Depart Heathrow 1050 on British Airways, arriving Frankfurt 1330. Transfer to Erfurt for four nights at Victor’s Residenz Hotel. Evening: introductory lecture.
Morning: walking tour of Erfurt including cathedral (where Luther was ordained in 1507), Merchant’s Church, Collegium Maius (the main building of the Old University) and St Michael’s Church (exterior). Afternoon: guided tour of St Augustine’s Monastery (founded in the 13th century).
Whole day excursion to Eisleben for walking tour: Luther’s birth house, St Petrikirche, St Andreaskirche, Luther’s death house. Evening lecture: The Theology of Martin Luther.
Whole day excursion to Eisenach. Morning: Wartburg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site where Luther found sanctuary after his heresy hearings at the Diet of Worms in 1521. Afternoon: St George’s Church and Luther’s House (where he lived during his parish schooling, exterior only).
Transfer to Wittenberg for two nights at Hotel Stadtpalais. Free time followed by short orientation tour of Wittenberg and evening lecture: Martin Luther and the German Nation.
Walking tour and visits in Wittenberg, including Stadtkirche (known as the ‘Mother Church of the Reformation’, magnificent alterpiece by Cranach) and Schlosskirche (where Luther posted his 95 Theses) and Lutherhaus Museum.
Free time followed by transfer to Berlin for 1645 departure, arriving Heathrow 1745.
