Check in from 1500 at the Francis Hotel, Bath for three nights, for 1600 lecture: Soli Deo Gloria – A Survey of Bach’s Life and Achievement. Evening performance at Assembly Rooms with Florilegium featuring Ashley Solomon (Director) and James Gilchrist (tenor): J S Bach Concerto from BWV 152; Buxtehude Quemadmodum Desiderat Cervus BUX WV 92; Zelenka Laudate Pueri Dominum; Telemann Concerto à Quattro in A minor; J S Bach Brandenburg Concerto No 4; Zelenka Concerto à 8; J S Bach Cantata BWV 55.



Morning lecture: Borrowing from the Neighbours: How Italian and French Composers Influenced Bach’s Musical Language followed by visit to the Holburne Museum. Early afternoon performance at Guildhall featuring Mahan Esfahani (harpsichord) and Michala Petri (recorder): Handel Sonata in A minor for recorder and basso continuo HWV 362; J S Bach Partita in C minor for alto recorder solo; Telemann Trio Sonata in B for recorder and cembalo concertato (8); Rameau Three pieces for solo harpsichord; J S Bach Sonata in B minor for recorder and basso continuo; Vivaldi/N Chédeville Sonata in A major for recorder and basso continuo, ‘Il Pastor Fido’. Afternoon: guided walking tour of Bath. Evening performance at Assembly Rooms featuring Academy of Ancient Music, Christian Curnyn (harpsichord), Keri Fuge (soprano) and Tim Mead (countertenor): Handel Concerto Grosso (TBC), Cantata HWV 230 Ah! che troppo ineguali; Handel/Ferrandini Cantata HWV 234 Il Pianto di Maria; Pergolesi Stabat Mater.



Morning lecture: The Mass in B minor: Bach’s Enigmatic Masterpiece followed by performance at Assembly Rooms featuring Brecon Baroque and Rachel Podger (violin/leader): Vivaldi Concerto for violin, strings, continuo Op 8 No 5 in D minor RV 242, Concerto for lute, strings, continuo in D major RV 93, Concerto for organ, strings, continuo, Concerto for cello, strings, continuo, The Seasons (four violin concertos interspersed with readings of the four poems which inspired Vivaldi). Afternoon: visit to No. 1 Royal Crescent Museum. Evening performance at Bath Abbey featuring Erebus Ensemble, Harry Bicket (conductor), Lucy Crowe (soprano), Anna Harvey (mezzo-soprano), Nicholas Pritchard (tenor) and Ashley Riches (bass baritone): J S Bach Mass in B minor.
