Day
1
Depart Heathrow 10:50 on British Airways, arriving Berlin 13:40. Transfer to Marriott Hotel Leipzig for six nights. Welcome and introductory lecture.
Day
2
Morning lecture followed by walking tour of Leipzig (Altes Rathaus, Baroque Barthels Hof) and lunch at historic Coffe Baum (frequented by Schumann, Wagner, Goethe). Afternoon visit to the Bach Archiv (the world’s pre-eminent centre of Bach scholarship) and guided tour of the Museum of Historical Instruments.

3
Whole day excursion to Eisenach (Bach’s birthplace, Bach House) and Erfurt. Evening festival performance at Nikolaikirche with Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists and Sir John Eliot Gardiner (director): Cantata Ring 1.

Morning lecture followed by afternoon festival performances at Thomaskirche with Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Choir and Ton Koopman (director): Cantata Ring 2; with Thomanerchor Leipzig, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and Thomaskantor Gotthold Schwarz (director): Cantata Ring 3; with Bach Collegium Japan and Masaaki Suzuki (director): Cantata Ring 4. Evening festival performance at Nikolaikirche with Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists and Sir John Eliot Gardiner (director): Cantata Ring 5.

Morning festival performances at Leipzig Markt with Gaechinger Cantorey and Hans-Christoph Radermann (director): Cantata Ring 6; at Thomaskirche with Bach Collegium Japan and Masaaki Suzuki (director): Cantata Ring 7. Afternoon festival performances at Nikolaikirche with Gaechinger Cantorey and Hans-Christoph Radermann (director): Cantata Ring 8; at Thomaskirche with Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Choir and Ton Koopman (director): Cantata Ring 9. Evening festival performance at Nikolaikirche with Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists and Sir John Eliot Gardiner (director): Cantata Ring 10.

Whole day excursion to Dresden (walking tour, New and Historical Green Vaults, Frauenkirche). Evening festival performance at Leipzig Gewandhaus with Nelson Goerner (piano): J S Bach Preludes & Fugues, BWV 870-881, from The Well-tempered Clavier Part II; Chopin Preludes Op 28.

Köthen Castle (where Bach served as Kapellmeister for Prince Leopold). Continue to Berlin for 16:45 departure, arriving Heathrow 17:45.
