Itinerary

Day

1

Tour assembles 1300 at Guildford city railway station. Visit to Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village (once home to Victorian painter and sculptor G F Watts) including guided tour of Limnerslease House. Transfer to Deans Place Hotel for three nights. Introductory lecture: Arts and Crafts Architecture and Design.

2

Morning lecture: Sussex Modernism followed by guided tour of Farley Farm House (home of Surrealist photographer Lee Miller and artist Roland Penrose). Afternoon visit to Standen (Arts and Crafts house with Morris & Co interiors).

Day

3

Morning: walking tour of Lewes including Southover Grange and Castle gateway. Excursion to Monk’s House (18th century cottage once home to Leonard and Virginia Wolf), St Peter’s Church in Firle (John Piper stained glass), Berwick Church (Bloomsbury set murals) and Charleston (house and gardens).

4

Morning excursion to Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne. Tour disperses at Lewes railway station 1300.
