Cultural tours for the discerning traveller

SHAKESPEARE AT STRATFORD

Date: 03 September - 06 September, 2012

Lecturer: Vivien Heilbron

Cost: £525  •  Course Code: SHS6-12

This tour offers the chance to attend three Royal Shakespeare Company performances. At the recently transformed Royal Shakespeare Theatre we will see Twelfth Night, directed by RSC Associate Director David Farr, and at the Swan Theatre we will see two historical plays exploring the struggle for power and the right to lead a nation: King John and Richard III, the former directed by Maria Aberg and the latter by RSC Associate Director Roxana Silbert.

There will be a handful of formal and informal talks by our tour director and guest speakers, with the hope that, as in previous years, an actor of the calibre of Greg Hicks and Jonathan Slinger will address our group.

An excursion to admire the splendours of Compton Verney, a Robert Adam mansion set in a Capability Brown landscape, and a visit to view a display of archive material at the Shakespeare Library conclude our four day tour.

We stay in the heart of Stratford upon Avon, at the historic Mercure Shakespeare Hotel.

This tour will be led by Vivien Heilbron, Shakespearean actress, Emmy nominee and honorary fellow of Stratford’s Shakespeare Institute.
